Rooted in the Community: Local Partnership in Indonesia
On a small, developing island in Indonesia, tourism is expanding rapidly. Developers and investors are lining up, and local authorities welcome the growth. Yet alongside new business comes challenges: large developments can easily outcompete local initiatives and small enterprises.
At Anchor Bed & Bread, a NODEPA business, the goal is to drive local development that supports the surrounding community.

Building Local Partnerships
From the start, supporting local business has been central to Anchor Bed & Bread. Over time, partnerships have been built with various local actors, stepping in early to support new initiatives. This has created a local foundation that both the team and employees are proud of.
Every day, hotel and café guests drink coffee from a local roastery. What started with an eager barista experimenting with roasting beans has grown into a business supplying several cafés in the area.
Anchor Bed & Bread aims to offer guests a good place to rest and quality food to eat. Fresh ingredients arrive at the kitchen daily from local suppliers who keep their service competitive with larger commercial options.
Transportation services offer another example of local collaboration. Through a partnership with Hasan, guests and visiting groups are provided with reliable transport. Through this work, Hasan has expanded his transport business and built a few rental units on his property, helping him support his family and offer his children better opportunities.
When international groups visit, surfing is a standard part of the program on the island's surf breaks. The surf instructors partnering with Anchor Bed & Bread are three brothers who started a surf school to earn a living. Over years of cooperation and feedback, they have built a school that stands out in the local surfing scene.

Everyday Collaboration and Shared Growth
In a growing town, these relationships are part of daily life. Groceries are bought from local suppliers, surf instructors are met in the waves, and local drivers are used for everyday trips. Getting to know the people behind the businesses and following their development makes the daily work clearer and more rewarding.
As part of NODEPA's vision of equipping local communities, supporting local business is a core value. By investing in local partnerships, Anchor Bed & Bread helps ensure that economic growth directly benefits the local population.
